Wood Brandon be Good?

On Monday, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim traded Gold-Glove shortstop Orlando Cabrera to the White Sox for pitcher Jon Garland. This blockbuster deal seemed to have developed overnight, and it may have opened the door for the young Brandon Wood.

Wood was drafted by the Angels in the first round (with the 23rd pick) in the 2003 amateur draft, according to baseballreference.com. He played sporadically with the big club in 2007, making his debut in April and playing in a total of 13 games. But this talented 22-year old infielder has the makings of a sure-fire All Star. In five minor league seasons, Wood has amassed a total of 107 homeruns (including 43 in 2005), along with 61 stolen bases. He has speed, pop, and versatility, as shown by his 74 games at third base.

With Cabrera gone, and a vacancy at shortstop, the Angels may decide to look within the organization for a replacement. Though, they have been targeting the Orioles' shortstop Miguel Tejada to play third - though now he could play in his more comfortable position. Wood has also been rumored to be part of a deal that would land current Marlins' third baseman Miguel Cabrera. Should indeed be a very interesting off season!
