Back in May, Arizona Diamondbacks' third baseman Chad Tracy went down with an injury. So, without a capable body to handle the hot corner, The DBacks decided to call up 24-year old Mark Reynolds from Double-A...and he responded well. Reynolds' debut came on May 16 against the Colorado Rockies (ironically, their opponent in the NLCS).According to baseballreference.com, in 111 games, Reynolds hit .279 with an impressive 17 home runs and 62 RBIs. However, in his rookie year, Reynolds matched a rather dubious feat - striking out in nine consecutive plate appearances. That ties the record for most among position players - the first since Bo Jackson did it in 1988!
But Reynolds does have a pretty potent bat. In 2006, Reynolds played 106 games between Single and Double-A ball. He hit .319 with 31 homeruns and 98 RBI! The D'Backs were down a third baseman, and Reynolds filled in nicely, and helped the Snakes get into October baseball.
